Smith?s practice looks at the loyalty of images to their subjects. The market, atemporality, and a desire for narrative contribute to his investigation of fidelity. Employing different techniques and strategies, television and cinema trivia are recurring subject matter; describing these peculiarities as screen bleed, he highlights the moments when images supplant the subjects they represent.
Smith developed a presentation of new works while undertaking the residency, under the title Stolen Tear.
